This painting was made as part of my MA and has been in storage. It combines imagery from Bronzino’s painting in the National Gallery, An Allegory with Venus and Cupid c1545. The story of Venus and Cupid is cloaked in messages of love, desire and deception. I have always enjoyed reinterpretation through Art and often lift and shift imagery to new contexts. In this work I combine imagery drawn in Las Vegas of broken signs. The aesthetic of the original graphic signs, now broken and no longer functional interrupt the allegory. I question which elements are dominant in this new context.
